UN’EVOLUZIONE DEL NOSTRO PROGETTO CULTURALE
L’Annuale di Volterra nasce come naturale evoluzione del percorso sviluppato negli anni dalla nostra associazione: un progetto più ampio, strutturato e istituzionale, che porta a una nuova dimensione la visione culturale e la missione che da sempre guidano le nostre attività.
L’obiettivo è costruire un appuntamento capace di andare oltre il tradizionale evento espositivo, creando un luogo di incontro tra arte contemporanea, cultura, territorio e istituzioni, aperto a linguaggi, esperienze e professionalità differenti.
In questa nuova fase, Volterra assume un ruolo centrale. Non è soltanto la città che ospita la rassegna, ma ne diventa parte integrante: attraverso i suoi luoghi, la sua storia, il suo tessuto culturale e il dialogo con la sua realtà pubblica e istituzionale.
L’Annuale nasce così come un progetto profondamente legato alla città e, allo stesso tempo, aperto a una dimensione nazionale e internazionale: un nuovo spazio culturale nel quale il contemporaneo possa entrare in relazione con l’identità millenaria di Volterra e lasciare, a sua volta, un segno destinato a restare.
CONCEPT CURATORIALE
La bellezza che resta
La bellezza non abita nella compiacenza dello sguardo, né nella perfezione di una forma chiusa.
È un’incurabile inquietudine, una forza viva che attraversa l’apparenza per andare a toccare la parte più profonda dell'anima. La bellezza autentica non chiede di essere semplicemente contemplata: chiede di accadere.
Può affiorare da un'imprevista sovrapposizione di materia, sorgere dal coraggio di una spaccatura o manifestarsi dove il tempo sembrava aver posato il silenzio. È una ricerca radicale, un atto di rivelazione che squarcia la superficie del visibile per far emergere ciò che possiede il dono raro e potente di restare.
L’ANNUALE DI VOLTERRA nasce da questa visione: l'arte non come ornamento, ma come esperienza trasformativa e ferita di luce, capace di scuotere le coscienze, abitare la memoria e mutare per sempre il nostro modo di sentire.
La spaccatura come origine e segno che lascia traccia
In questo percorso, la spaccatura è il cuore generativo della rassegna. Una frattura che attraversa la materia non rappresenta un cedimento, ma la nascita di una nuova possibilità: è il punto esatto in cui l'opacità si interrompe e permette alla luce e al senso di farsi strada.
All'opera d'arte non si chiede di rassicurare, né di esaurirsi nella grazia di un istante. Le si chiede di scavare un solco e lasciare un'impronta indelebile.
La spaccatura che attraversa la pietra nell'iconografia e nella filosofia dell'Annuale è la forma stessa dell'arte: un segno che incrina la rigidità delle cose per farvi nascere la vita. La roccia solida e la frattura che la attraversa per far nascere un fiore non si escludono, ma convivono nel medesimo spazio, trasformandosi a vicenda.
Da questo incontro nasce un messaggio estetico e poetico di profonda persistenza, che continua a risuonare dentro di noi molto tempo dopo che i nostri occhi si sono allontanati.
Il dialogo con Volterra: stratificazioni e permanenza
Nascere da una frattura o da una sovrapposizione significa inserirsi nel flusso della storia, accogliere la memoria e farsi eternità. In questo dialogo s'innesta Volterra: non un mero fondale espositivo, ma una matrice viva di significato e di pietra.
Volterra è una città scolpita dalla stratificazione. Pietra su pietra, forma su forma, secolo su secolo, ogni civiltà vi ha impresso il proprio segno e la propria visione, lasciando un'eredità che non cancella il passato, ma lo arricchisce di nuova vita. La bellezza, qui, non è mai stata statica: è un sedimento di memorie e di visioni che si sono sovrapposte senza mai dissolversi.
È questa la permanenza che l'Annuale ricerca nell'arte: un'opera che sappia abitare il tempo, assorbire le stratificazioni del luogo e continuare a generare senso. A Volterra l'antico affiora costantemente nel presente. Ogni creazione contemporanea che vi si insedia non giunge come un corpo estraneo, ma come un nuovo strato di luce all'interno di una storia millenaria.

UN PROGETTO CULTURALE A 360 GRADI
A partire dall'estate 2027, l'Annuale di Volterra trasformerà la città in un polo vivace di sperimentazione culturale. Oltre alla grande mostra collettiva diffusa nelle sedi espositive più suggestive del territorio, la rassegna sarà accompagnata da un ricco calendario di eventi volti ad abbracciare l'arte in tutte le sue forme:

Incontri e Linguaggi Letterari: Presentazioni di libri, reading ed estratti narrativi, tavole rotonde con autori e momenti dedicati alla poesia e alla scrittura come forma d'arte visiva e concettuale.

Arte visiva e Performing Arts: Installazioni ambientali, performance dal vivo e mostre collettive di pittura, scultura, fotografia e digital art.

Dialoghi e Workshop: Conferenze sul mercato dell'arte, dibattiti sui linguaggi contemporanei e momenti di confronto libero tra artisti, curatori e pubblico.
GIURIA E RICONOSCIMENTI
Una Giuria di Qualità, composta da curatori, critici d'arte ed esperti del settore, valuterà le opere esposte durante ciascuna edizione.
Oltre all'assegnazione dei premi ufficiali della rassegna, agli artisti vincitori verrà offerta l'opportunità di realizzare una mostra personale a Volterra nelle stagioni successive, garantendo un percorso continuo di valorizzazione e crescita professionale.
Tutti gli artisti selezionati saranno inoltre inseriti nel Catalogo Ufficiale dell'Annuale (in formato cartaceo e digitale) e beneficiari di un piano di comunicazione dedicato su stampa e canali social.

La selezione delle opere e degli interventi culturali è curata direttamente dal team espositivo dell'associazione.

AN EVOLUTION OF OUR CULTURAL PROJECT
The Annuale di Volterra is the natural evolution of the work developed over the years by our Association: a broader, more structured and institutional project that brings the cultural vision and mission that have always guided our activities into a new dimension.
The aim is to create an event that goes beyond the traditional exhibition format, establishing a space for dialogue between contemporary art, culture, the local community and institutions, open to different languages, experiences and professional perspectives.
In this new phase, Volterra takes on a central role. It is not simply the city hosting the event, but an integral part of its identity: through its places, its history, its cultural fabric and its dialogue with the city’s public and institutional life.
The Annuale thus emerges as a project deeply rooted in Volterra while remaining open to a national and international dimension: a new cultural space in which the contemporary can engage with Volterra’s millennia-old identity and, in turn, leave a mark destined to endure.
CURATORIAL CONCEPT
The Beauty That Remains
Beauty does not dwell in the complacency of the gaze, nor in the perfection of a closed form.
It is an incurable restlessness, a living force that pierces through appearance to touch the deepest realm of the soul. Authentic beauty does not ask to be merely contemplated: it asks to happen.
It can surface from an unforeseen overlay of matter, arise from the courage of a fissure, or manifest where time seemed to have laid silence to rest. It is a radical pursuit, an act of revelation that tears through the surface of the visible to bring forth that which possesses the rare and powerful gift of remaining.
The ANNUALE DI VOLTERRA originates from this vision: art not as an ornament, but as a transformative experience and a wound of light, capable of stirring consciences, inhabiting memory, and forever altering the way we feel.
The Fissure as Origin and Enduring Mark
Along this journey, the fissure is the generative heart of the exhibition. A fracture running through matter does not represent a failure, but the birth of a new possibility: it is the precise point where opacity breaks, allowing light and meaning to forge their way through.
An artwork is not asked to reassure, nor to exhaust itself in the grace of a fleeting moment. It is asked to carve a groove and leave an indelible imprint.
The fissure running through the stone in the iconography and philosophy of the Annuale is the very shape of art: a mark that cracks the rigidity of things to allow life to bloom within it. The solid rock and the fracture that pierces it to give birth to a flower do not exclude one another; they coexist within the same space, mutually transforming each other.
From this encounter arises an aesthetic and poetic message of profound persistence—one that continues to resonate within us long after our eyes have turned away.
Dialogue with Volterra: Layers and Permanence
To be born from a fracture or an overlay means inserting oneself into the flow of history, embracing memory, and becoming eternity. Volterra weaves itself into this dialogue: not as a mere backdrop for display, but as a living matrix of meaning and stone.
Volterra is a city sculpted by stratification. Stone upon stone, form upon form, century upon century, every civilization has inscribed its mark and vision here, leaving behind a legacy that does not erase the past, but enriches it with new life. Beauty, here, has never been static: it is a sediment of memories and visions overlaid without ever dissolving.
This is the permanence that the Annuale seeks in art: a work capable of inhabiting time, absorbing the layers of the land, and continuing to generate meaning. In Volterra, the ancient constantly surfaces in the present. Every contemporary creation that takes root here arrives not as a foreign body, but as a new layer of light within a thousand-year-old story.

A MULTIDISCIPLINARY CULTURAL EXPERIENCE
Starting in Summer 2027, The Volterra Annual will turn the city into a dynamic hub of cultural experimentation. Alongside a major group exhibition hosted in Volterra’s most evocative venues, the event will feature a rich calendar encompassing art in all its expressions:

Literary Encounters: Book launches, poetry readings, panel discussions with authors, and dedicated sessions exploring narrative as a visual and conceptual art form.

Visual & Performing Arts: Site-specific installations, live performances, and collective showcases of painting, sculpture, photography, and digital art.

Dialogues & Workshops: Art market conferences, round tables on contemporary aesthetics, and direct networking sessions among artists, curators, and the public.

JURY & AWARDS
A Professional Jury, comprising art critics, curators, and industry experts, will evaluate the exhibited works for each edition.
In addition to official awards and recognitions, winning artists will be granted the opportunity to hold a solo exhibition in Volterra during subsequent seasons, fostering long-term professional development.
All selected participants will be featured in the official printed and digital catalog and included in the event's dedicated press and media campaigns.
